Green Hanoi Initiative

Used cooking oil collection in Hanoi, Vietnam. Recycled into biofuel, with proceeds after collection costs supporting children's education, health and dignity.

Turning Hanoi’s used cooking oil into cleaner fuel and brighter futures.

A community programme run by GKK Eco Oil.

Every kitchen has oil it no longer needs. We collect it free of charge and send it for recycling into biofuel. After collection costs, the proceeds support programmes in Vietnam that give children education, health and dignity.

With monthly reporting and full traceability, your kitchen’s waste becomes part of a cleaner future.

What your kitchen throws away could help a child stay in school.

Why we do this

A small act in the kitchen. A real difference for a child.

Across Vietnam, too many children still miss out on the basics: a place in school, good health, and the dignity of being cared for. We believe waste can become hope. After collection costs, the proceeds from the oil we collect go to organisations working for children's education, health and dignity.

The organisations we support are reviewed each year so help goes where it is needed most, and each donation is confirmed in writing by the organisation that receives it.

  • Education — Helping children stay in school and keep learning.
  • Health — Supporting care for children and families who need it most.
  • Dignity — Standing with vulnerable children and young people so they can build their own future.

Our partner organisations will be announced here soon.

How it works — from your kitchen to cleaner fuel

Every litre has a paper trail from your kitchen to the processor.

  1. Free collection — We work around your kitchen, with sealed containers if you need them or collection from your existing storage, on a schedule that suits you. No fees.
  2. Weighed and countersigned — Every pickup is weighed on site and signed off by your team.
  3. Recycled, never resold as food — Collected oil goes only to established biofuel companies in Vietnam and abroad.
  4. Reported — A monthly statement shows the amount collected, confirmation of recycling and the estimated CO₂ avoided.

Biodiesel made from used cooking oil cuts emissions by at least 84% compared with fossil diesel (source: EU Renewable Energy Directive).

Schools and learning

Teaching the next generation where waste goes.

Used cooking oil should never go down the drain or back into food. Recycled properly, it becomes cleaner fuel. We are glad to share simple learning materials with schools in Hanoi, or to visit for a short talk, on request. School kitchens are welcome to take part in collection too.
